Mohali: Major Arshdeep Singh Gill of Mohali has been conferred the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award, for displaying exceptional bravery during a high-risk counter-insurgency operation in Manipur.
The prestigious honour was conferred by President Droupadi Murmu at the Defence Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, recognizing Major Gill’s remarkable leadership and valour in the face of grave danger.
A resident of Sector 79, Mohali, Major Arshdeep Singh Gill is an officer of the Armoured Corps attached to the 1 Assam Rifles. He earned the gallantry award for leading a complex and prolonged military operation in Manipur, where he displayed exceptional courage, tactical brilliance and unwavering commitment to duty under extremely challenging circumstances.
According to Army sources, Major Gill led his team through an arduous operation that lasted nearly 84 hours. Despite difficult terrain, adverse conditions and significant operational risks, he remained at the forefront of the mission, motivating his troops and guiding them with determination. His leadership ultimately resulted in a successful operation against terrorists and the accomplishment of the mission objectives.
Throughout the operation, Major Gill demonstrated exceptional presence of mind, resilience and fearlessness. His actions not only ensured the success of the mission but also reflected the highest traditions of the Indian Army and the armed forces.
