IED recovered, 2 held in Mohali as Punjab Police bust suspected cross-border terror module
MOHALI: In a major breakthrough against cross-border terror networks, the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Mohali, has apprehended two associates of a foreign-based terror operative from Mohali and recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday.
According to the DGP, the operation led to the recovery of the IED and the foiling of an alleged terror plot aimed at targeting critical public infrastructure in SAS Nagar. The timely action by the security agencies is believed to have averted a potentially serious threat to public safety and security.
Police officials said the arrested individuals were allegedly linked to a foreign-based terror operative and were part of a larger conspiracy. The recovery of the explosive device is being viewed as a significant success in ongoing efforts to curb cross-border terrorism and prevent attacks on vital installations.
Investigators are now working to uncover the entire terror network, including its handlers, associates, logistical support system and other linkages connected to the conspiracy. Further arrests and recoveries are not being ruled out as the probe progresses.
The Punjab Police said it remains committed to dismantling terror networks, eliminating organised crime and maintaining peace and public safety across the state. Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the full scope of the module and identify all those involved.
