Congress claims strong public support in panchayat polls

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president, Vinay Kumar, on Wednesday expressed happiness over the victory of the party-backed candidates and workers in most areas during the first phase of the panchayati raj institution elections in Himachal Pradesh.Kumar said the enthusiastic participation of rural voters in the elections reflected the strength of democracy in the country and showed continued public faith in the Congress party's policies and leadership.He said the Congress always worked to strengthen democratic values and added that public opinion in the state was clearly in favour of the party. The trust people reposed in the Congress govt is highly significant, and the party is grateful for the support received across the state, said the HPCC chief.Targeting the BJP, Kumar claimed that the people of Himachal Pradesh rejected the saffron party.
