3B2 mkt to be cordoned off on New Year eve
Mohali: In view of New Year's Eve celebrations, Mohali Police have announced stringent security arrangements across the district, with special focus on vulnerable and crowded areas. As part of the plan, Phase 3B2 market will be completely cordoned off on the night of Dec 31 to discourage revellers and prevent a law-and-order situation.
SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans directed all DSPs, SHOs, and police station in-charges to remain on high alert and stay on roads all night. Police said that incidents of unruly behaviour, dunken brawls and traffic chaos were often reported in popular markets, including Phase 3B2, even on routine days, making them particularly vulnerable on New Year's Eve. SSP Hans directed officers to constitute area-wise teams for continuous patrolling, naka-bandi, and crowd control."We are not taking any chances. Over the past four days, we cleared Phase 3B2 market of revellers. On New Year's Eve, the market will be cordoned off completely, and no miscreant will be allowed to enter and create a nuisance," he said. Additional police force was deployed across busy markets, malls, party zones, hotels, clubs, and public gathering points. Police pickets were set up at strategic locations. PCR and ERV vehicles will conduct continuous patrolling throughout the night, especially in residential areas and vulnerable pockets. In addition to market closures, PCR and emergency response vehicles will patrol residential areas, while traffic police will be deployed at major intersections to regulate vehicular movement and check drunk driving. Surprise checking and breathalyser tests will also be conducted at multiple locations. Senior officers will personally monitor arrangements on the ground, and the police control room will function round the clock to respond swiftly to any distress call. Mohali Police urged residents to celebrate responsibly, follow traffic rules, and cooperate with the police to ensure a safe, peaceful, and incident-free New Year's Eve. Panchkula cops on high alert More than 500 police personnel will be deployed in Panchkula to maintain law and order, regulate traffic and respond swiftly to any untoward incident. DCP Srishti Gupta said senior officers, including ACPs, SHOs, crime branch officials and police post in-charges, will remain on high alert and continuously monitor their respective areas. As part of the security plan, 48 police nakas have been set up at key locations across the city. In addition, 29 rider teams, 12 PCR vehicles and 19 Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) will remain on continuous patrol.Considering expected rush of devotees, special security arrangements have been made at major religious places such as the Mata Mansa Devi Temple and Kali Mata Temple in Kalka.
