Times News Network
Bhopal: Police arrested two wanted criminals during a joint raid at an Irani Dera in Aman Colony in Nishatpura. The accused were allegedly hiding in the area after committing crimes in different districts of the state.
One of those arrested, Salik alias Rehan Irani, carried a cumulative reward of Rs 17,000 and was wanted in multiple cases registered in Bhopal, Betul and Raisen. The second accused, Rizwan Hussain, was wanted by Panna police in connection with several robbery cases and a jewellery shop theft.
Acting on a tip-off, teams from Nishatpura, Chhola and Gandhi Nagar police stations, along with visiting police personnel from Panna, conducted a coordinated operation on Wednesday evening. Around 50 policemen were deployed to cordon off the settlement and search suspected hideouts.
Police said Salik was a listed history-sheeter of Nishatpura police station and had been absconding for a long period. He faces more than 24 criminal cases, including robbery, theft, cheating, assault and attempt to murder, registered in Bhopal and other districts. Rewards of Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,000 had been announced against him in separate cases registered in Betul, Raisen and Bhopal. Arrest warrants were also pending against him.
Rizwan, who has around 15 criminal cases registered in Madhya Pradesh and other states, was wanted in three robbery cases and a jewellery shop theft reported in Panna district. He has been taken into custody by Panna police for further questioning.
Police said interrogation of both accused is expected to yield leads about other crimes, absconding associates and active criminal networks.
