Marketing manager loses Rs 2.44 lakh after suspected mobile hack
Times News Network
Bhopal: Kajlikheda police on Thursday registered a cyber fraud case after a 48-year-old marketing manager allegedly lost Rs 2.44 lakh from his bank account following a suspected mobile phone hack.
According to police, complainant Ankit Shivhare, a resident of Kajlikheda on Kolar Road, works as a marketing manager with a pharmaceutical company and frequently travels for work.
In his complaint, Shivhare stated that he was in Neemuch on an official tour when his mobile phone suddenly began updating on its own. Suspecting something unusual, he immediately removed the SIM card from the device. However, despite doing so, transactions worth Rs 2.44 lakh were allegedly carried out from his account.
The complainant told police that he had neither clicked on any suspicious link nor received any software update notification before the incident.
After discovering the unauthorised transactions, he lodged a complaint on the national cybercrime helpline. Following preliminary inquiry, the case diary was forwarded to Kajlikheda police, who registered a case against unidentified cyber fraudsters.
Police suspect the complainant’s mobile phone may have been compromised and said a detailed technical investigation is underway to trace the fraudsters and determine the modus operandi used in the crime.
