Road to reopen after six years

Kamaraj Road, shut since 2019 for Metro construction, will fully reopen for two-way traffic from the first week of January 2026, restoring an important CBD link.

2/10

Relief for central Bengaluru traffic

The reopening is expected to ease congestion in the central business district, especially on MG Road, Brigade Road and surrounding areas.

3/10

Metro work caused long closure

BMRCL took over the stretch in June 2019 to build the MG Road underground station on the Pink Line, leading to prolonged traffic disruption.

4/10

Deadline missed due to delays

The road was to reopen by 2023, but Covid-19, tunnelling work and technical challenges delayed restoration by several years.

5/10

Partial reopening in 2025

In February 2025, one side of the road was reopened, allowing limited traffic from Cauvery Emporium towards Commercial Street.

6/10

Full restoration now complete

Civil works are finished and the road has been rebuilt with a white-topped surface, making it ready for regular traffic use.

7/10

Final clearance awaited

Authorities said the stretch will open after traffic police clearance, with both sides likely operational from January 2.

8/10

Faster commute expected

The reopening will reduce travel time for commuters coming from Commercial Street, Dickenson Road and Cubbon Road towards MG Road.

9/10

Integrated Metro station

The underground station will connect with the existing elevated Purple Line station, improving passenger movement once the Pink Line opens.

10/10

Green makeover planned for Kamaraj Road stretch

Though over 80 trees were removed during construction, agencies plan to beautify the stretch with private partners ahead of full station operations.
