Man beaten to death outside Sola Civil Hospital; three arrested, juvenile detained in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad: An unidentified man was allegedly beaten to death outside Sola Civil Hospital after he reportedly assaulted another man with a brick during an altercation over drinking water, police said. Three men have been arrested and a juvenile detained in connection with the murder.
The incident came to light on June 8 when the injured man was found near the OPD gate of Sola Civil Hospital. He was taken for treatment but succumbed to his injuries. A postmortem indicated that the death was caused by multiple injuries, following which a murder case was registered.
During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from the area and found visuals showing three to four persons assaulting the victim outside the hospital premises. A motorcycle seen in the footage helped investigators identify one of the suspects, Jitendra Rathwa, 25, an office boy at a private engineering firm.
Police subsequently arrested Jitendra, who allegedly told investigators that he, along with Anish Parmar, Vishal Parmar and a 17-year-old juvenile, had assaulted the victim.
According to investigators, the victim had allegedly struck Jitendra’s father, Nagin Rathwa, on the head with a brick half an hour before the murder. Nagin was brought to Sola Civil Hospital for treatment. Police said the accused spotted the victim standing outside the hospital and confronted him. The group allegedly assaulted him with sticks, a pipe, and kicks and punches before forcing him onto a motorcycle.
Investigators said the victim was then taken to an open plot near the old dog house on Capital Road, close to MD Plywood, where he was assaulted again.
Those arrested have been identified as Jitendra Rathwa; Anish Parmar, 24, an auto rickshaw driver; and Vishal Parmar, 35, a driver. The juvenile has been detained under relevant provisions of law.
Efforts are underway to establish the identity of the deceased and complete further investigation.
