Ahmedabad: The Gujarat education department has granted administrative approval of Rs 330 crore under the 2026-27 budget to strengthen school infrastructure across the state, including the construction of over 100 new govt govt schools. The initiative aims to improve educational facilities in non-tribal, tribal, and special focus areas.
As per the approval, new school buildings, compound walls, and repair works will be undertaken in multiple regions. In Ahmedabad Rural alone, 14 new schools will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 44.8 crore. Following administrative clearance, the education department will now initiate the construction process.
According to the official resolution, the total budget Rs 330 crore has been divided into three major components: Rs 210 crore for non-tribal areas, Rs 80 crore for tribal areas, and Rs 40 crore for special focus areas. Overall, 108 new schools will be built across the state, including 69 in non-tribal regions, 17 in tribal areas, and 22 in special focus zones.
Districts such as Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, and Kutch are among those set to benefit from the project. Additionally, infrastructure development in tribal areas is estimated at Rs 99.2 crore, while special focus areas will see works worth ₹70.4 crore.
Funds have also been allocated for the construction of compound walls in 108 schools and repair work in 21 schools. The govt has laid down strict guidelines, mandating that all construction adhere to PWD standards and safety norms set by the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA). Projects must be completed within the stipulated timeline, failing which approvals may be revoked.
