Family’s US trip turns costly as burglars strike Vasna home
Ahmedabad: A vacation to the United States turned costly for an Ahmedabad family after burglars allegedly broke into their locked Vasna residence and stole cash and jewellery worth more than Rs 4 lakh while the occupants were abroad.
The case was registered at the Vasna police station on Tuesday. Police have started investigation into the burglary reported from Malay Cooperative Housing Society near Sudarshan Party Plot in Vasna.
According to the complaint filed by Brijesh Shah, a businessman residing in Shahibaug, the targeted property belongs to his in-laws, Sanjeev Shah and Hetal Shah. The couple had left for the United States on May 7 to visit their son, Kenil Shah, who lives there.
The theft came to light on Monday evening after Sanjeev Shah noticed that the CCTV cameras installed at the house had remained offline for the past two days. He informed one of his employees, who then contacted Brijesh Shah and requested him to inspect the property.
When Brijesh reached the house using spare keys, he found the bedrooms ransacked and cupboards lying open. The terrace door was found broken, leading investigators to suspect that the burglars entered the house through the rooftop.
Police said the stolen items include three gold rings, three gold chains, a pair of bangles, gold earrings, silver glasses, silver anklets and Rs 30,000 in cash. The total value of the stolen property has been estimated at Rs 4.05 lakh.
Investigators suspect the accused may have targeted the residence after noticing that the family had travelled abroad and the house remained locked for several days.
Police officials said CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined and local residents are being questioned to identify the culprits.
