AMC to use SCADA for better roads
Ahmedabad : The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will implement the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system at all its hot mix plants in a bid to add quality to roadworks. With approximately 60 lakh sq m of road surface under its charge, AMC is shifting toward data-backed infrastructure management, particularly with the monsoon in mind. The move follows a directive from the state roads and buildings department to standardise material quality and address the persistent problem of road erosion across the city.
The system will enable real-time monitoring of the asphalt preparation process for AMC’s road network. Under a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), bitumen must conform to IS73:2013 standards, with “daily tests mandatory for parameters including viscosity, ductility and softening point,” states AMC’s Comprehensive Policy For Traffic and Parking Management. Where more than ten tankers arrive at a plant in a single day, the SCADA system will automatically log multiple tests per plant.
All quality testing will be carried out in the presence of project management consultants (PMC) and AMC engineers, who will verify certificates before measurement books are finalised.
Contractors will continue to remain liable under a three-year Defect Liability Period (DLP).
