Renault Bridger design patent filed in India: New Brezza, Venue rival incoming?
Renault appears to be moving closer to launching a new compact SUV for the Indian market. The French carmaker has filed a design patent for the upcoming Bridger SUV in India, but there’s a catch! Now before we talk about it, this new model will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Tata Punch among others.
Interestingly, the patent filing has been registered under the ‘Games and Toys’ category, suggesting that the images may belong to a scale model rather than the final production vehicle. However, the filing still provides a clear look at the SUV’s expected styling direction.
Earlier this year in March, Renault had showcased the Bridger concept, previewing a rugged compact SUV positioned below the Duster. The newly surfaced patent images reveal a design that remains very close to the original concept model.
The Bridger carries a boxy and upright design with squared wheel arches, muscular fenders and a tall stance. The front section features a blacked-out fascia along with C-shaped LED DRLs and a wide grille setup. The rear continues the tough-looking design theme with an upright tailgate, distinctive LED tail lamps and a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate.
Once launched, the Bridger is expected to enter one of India’s most competitive SUV segments. While Renault has not officially revealed the technical specifications yet, we can expect the SUV to be offered with multiple powertrain choices. These may include a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol-hybrid engine and a new 1.2-litre four-cylinder MPFi turbo-petrol unit. Renault is also expected to offer a factory-fitted CNG option for the Indian market. As of now, the brand hasn't confirmed any details regarding the powertrain options.
