30 facts you might not know about 'How I Met Your Mother'

Though 'How I Met Your Mother' is over and we all finally know who the 'mother' is but it still remains one of our favorite TV shows of all time. So it's time to suit up because here a bunch of fun facts about 'How I Met Your Mother' and yes, it's going to be legen…wait for it...dary!

All of Ted’s future children scenes with Lyndsy Fonseca and David Henrie were all filmed during the first season so that the same age is shown throughout. The scenes included the show’s final episode with the titular mother who was filmed early in the second season.

All the main characters of ‘HIMYM’ had their better halves in numerous episodes. Alyson Hannigan’s husband Alexis Denisof played the role of Sandy Rivers; Cobie Smulders boyfriend Taran Killam played the role of Blauman and Neil Patrick Harris’ fiancé and now husband David Burtka played the role of Scooter, all of them making the cameos in the show more fun!

After the show ended, the actors were allowed to keep some of the props of the show. Josh Radnor ended up keeping the French blue horn that was Ted’s romantic gesture to Robin. Neil Patrick Harris got the original Playbook and also the gang’s favorite booth from MacLaren’s. And the iconic yellow umbrellas went to director Pamela Fryman and creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays.

A lot of episodes dealt with Robin’s (Cobie Smulders) past as the teen pop-star Robin Sparkles and included her big hit ‘Let’s go to the mall’. The song is available on the dancing game ‘Just Dance 3’.

In an online survey, Victoria played by Ashley Williams was voted as the favorite love interest of Ted on the show. Zoey played by Jennifer Morrison was voted as the least favorite.

Whenever Barney showed off his statistics, he involved the numbers 83 or 8 and 3. In one instance when he posed as an old aged man, he claimed his age to be 83.

Alyson Hannigan was pregnant while filming for Season 4 of the show but the show makers were not interested in Lily being shown as pregnant and so they tried to hide her pregnancy. The tricks included making her wear baggy tops and giant handbags. In ‘The Possimpible’ episode, Alyson showed her baby bump in the context of a subplot where Lily wins a hot-dog eating contest and has a comically distended stomach. When Alyson told the show makers about her pregnancy, even Cobie Smulders discovered that she was pregnant. Neither of the characters they play were pregnant on the show ironically.

Due to the quick-cut nature of the show’s visual style, the show was filmed without traditional live studio audience. The finished episode was then showed to the audience and their reactions were recorded and added for broadcast.

Josh Radnor was allergic to dogs and this was something the creators did not know until Josh was cast for the show. This played a part in the decision to get rid of Robin’s dogs in Season 2. Paramedics were always on call due to Josh’s close proximity to dogs while shooting for the show.

Cobie Smulders’ character Robin Scherbatsky was originally supposed to be from Toronto but Cobie belongs from Vancouver and so the plot was changed making Robin from Vancouver too.

A lot of big stars made an appearance in ‘How I Met Your Mother’ including Britney Spears and Katy Perry but fashion designer Tim Gunn was the most welcomed star on the sets. Nearly everybody wanted a photo and an autograph from him.

Whenever the gang went out to eat Chinese food, Barney Stinson was never able to eat properly because he could never use chop sticks. Since then he tried his best to learn to use them. It was only one time in Season 7 at the Hibachi Grill Restaurant that Barney could use chopsticks.

Neil Patrick Harris enjoyed Red Bull so much on and off the set of the show that he was given a lifetime supply of it and a mini-refrigerator by Red Bull because of the free advertising Neil gave the drink.

Marshall played by Jason Segel always bragged about winning a high school slam dunk contest once, well, he REALLY did win a high school slam dunk contest.

Marvin Eriksen Sr who played the role of Marshal’s (Jason Segel's) father in ‘How I Met Your Mother’ also gave voice to Patrick Star in ‘Spongebob’.

In the episode where Ted and Robin break up, there was a REAL life proposal on the set! The engagement between the couple whose ring Robin accidentally gets thinking Ted’s proposing was real. It was an elaborate proposal by Timothy Russo, a friend of the show’s writers to his then-girlfriend Jana Rugan.

Barney had suits for all occasions including a flight suit for Halloween and suitjamas for aleeping in. There are only 12 times throughout the entire season of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ when Barney Stinson showed up without a suit.

Neil Patrick Harris aka Barney Stinson was named after a drug peddler in the James Ellroy book ‘LA Confidential’.

The creators of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have been in a band together called ‘The Solids’ and they performed the show’s opening song ‘Hey Beautiful’.

If the show had not picked up after Season 1, they would have ended it with Victoria (Ashley Williams) being the mother.

‘Not A Father’s Day’ is officially celebrated on November 10, the day the episode got aired.
