As the US presidential campaign enters its final days, both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are intensifying their outreach efforts. On a recent stop in Kalamazoo, Michigan—a key swing state—Vice President Harris joined Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer at Trak Houz Bar & Grill to connect with local voters, engaging in a relaxed evening over a local beer.
The visit, however, sparked backlash online from Trump supporters and conservative commentators. Libs of TikTok shared an image of Harris at the event on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “We can’t afford gas & groceries. Thousands of North Carolina residents just lost all their belongings. Millions of illegals invaded our country bringing crime to our neighborhoods. What’s Kamala doing in the final days before the election? Relaxing with a beer in a staged photoshoot.”
Other users joined the criticism, with one commenting, “She is so out of touch,” while another said, “This has to be one of the most disconnected photos a politician has taken, particularly given the country's current condition.”
Another user added, “Kamala will have plenty of time to wallow in self-pity at the bar when she’s unemployed next year.”
This appearance in Kalamazoo shows the contrasting strategies of both Harris & Trump campaigns. While Trump continues to pack large venues Harris’ campaign has focused on reaching voters directly in key swing states, emphasising local ties and voter engagement.
With just 9 days to go until Election Day on November 5, both candidates are expected to continue intense efforts to mobilise their support and sway undecided voters as polls show a tight race for the White House.
