US Polls: Kamala Harris clinches unexpected lead over Trump in Iowa polls

Vice President Kamala Harris is now leading former President Donald Trump in Iowa, according to a new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll. The poll shows Harris ahead with 47% of likely voters' support, compared to Trump’s 44%. This shift comes just days before a critical election, with tight races in key battleground states.

The latest poll marks a significant change from previous months. In September, a similar poll had shown Trump leading Harris by 4 points. Back in June, Trump had an 18-point advantage over President Joe Biden, who was then expected to be the Democratic nominee.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has shifted from running as an independent to supporting Trump but remains on Iowa's ballot, has 3% support. This is a decrease from 6% in September and 9% in June.

Libertarian presidential candidate Chase Oliver is at less than 1%, while 1% of respondents prefer another candidate, 3% are unsure, and 2% declined to disclose their choice.

The Selzer & Co. poll surveyed 808 likely voters in Iowa, including those who have already voted or plan to vote, between October 28 and 31. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.

Both Trump and Harris have not campaigned in Iowa since the primaries and do not have campaign offices in the state. Their focus has been on seven crucial battleground states expected to determine the election outcome.

A win for Harris in Iowa would be unexpected, given the state's recent history of solid support for Trump, who secured victories there in both 2016 and 2020.
