Vice President Kamala Harris addressed a rally, focusing on the situation in Gaza and the US presidential election. Harris pledged to work towards ending the war in Gaza, securing the release of hostages, and ensuring safety for both Israelis and Palestinians. She stated, "I will do everything in my power to end the war in Gaza, to bring home the hostages and the suffering in Gaza, ensure Israel is secure and ensure the Palestinian people can realise their right to dignity, freedom, security and self-determination."
Harris also mentioned efforts to stabilize the Israel-Lebanon border, emphasizing diplomatic resolutions to protect civilians. She highlighted the need for new leadership in America and promised to tackle issues such as healthcare, taxes, housing, and childcare. "It is time for a new generation of leadership in America and I am ready to offer that leadership as the next President of the US," she said.
Promising to lower healthcare costs and make it a right, not a privilege, Harris said, "My plan will cut taxes for workers for middle-class families and small businesses, and lower healthcare costs including the cost of home care for seniors because I believe healthcare should be a right and not just a privilege."
Harris also pledged to defend reproductive freedom and said she would sign a bill restoring it nationwide. "When Congress passes a bill to restore reproductive freedom nationwide, as President of the US, I will proudly sign it into law," she affirmed.
The US presidential elections will take place on November 5, with Harris competing against former President Donald Trump. A New York Times and Siena College poll shows both candidates tied at 48% in the popular vote.
