United Nations Day

History

On June 26, 1945, the UN Charter was signed by representatives of 50 countries during the United Nations Conference on International Organization, held in San Francisco, California. This led to the official establishment of the international body. The Charter officially came into force on October 24, 1945, once the five permanent members of the Security Council and the majority of the other participating countries ratified it. (Photo: UN)
