Turbulence, medical scares lead to emergency landing of United Airlines flight, 6 injured

NEW DELHI: A United Airlines flight en route to New Jersey was redirected to an upstate New York airport on Friday, resulting in hospitalization for at least six individuals. This diversion, caused by both high winds and a medical emergency onboard, led to an unexpected landing at New York Stewart International Airport in New Windsor around 6:45pm, according to United's communication with Fox News Digital.

The flight, originating from Tel Aviv, Israel, faced challenges as high winds at Newark Liberty International Airport necessitated the diversion. Despite reports of turbulence from New Windsor EMS, United Airlines clarified to Fox News Digital that the aircraft did not encounter "extreme turbulence." Instead, the incident involved a single passenger experiencing a medical issue, with several others evaluated for possible motion sickness by medical personnel.

In response to the situation, 25 EMTs and paramedics attended to the passengers at New Windsor airport. While some on the flight, which carried 310 passengers and crew, were treated for minor conditions, six individuals required hospitalization.

Following the incident, the aircraft refueled and resumed its journey to Newark. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating the events surrounding the diversion and the conditions leading up to it.

Orange County executive Steven M Neuhaus, in a statement released later that day, indicated that the flight was carrying around 200 passengers. Following the diversion, a number of these passengers required evaluation at local hospitals, whereas others were transported to their intended destination, Newark airport.
