Trump ally Steve Bannon released from jail, says Nancy Pelosi orchestrated his imprisonment

Trump ally Steve Bannon released from jail, says Nancy Pelosi orchestrated his imprisonment
Steve Bannon, a close associate of Donald Trump, was freed from prison Tuesday after completing a four-month sentence for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack investigation.
Upon his release from the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, Bannon scheduled a news conference in Manhattan. Bureau of Prisons spokesperson Kristie Breshears confirmed his departure, according to news agency AP.
Immediately resuming his podcast, Bannon expressed his commitment to Trump's presidential campaign while criticising Democrats. He claimed Nancy Pelosi orchestrated his imprisonment to silence him, despite his conviction by a jury and sentencing by a judge.
"The four months in federal prison not only didn't break me, it empowered me," Bannon said. "I am more energized and more focused than I've ever been in my entire life."
The 70-year-old began his sentence on July 1 after the Supreme Court denied his request to delay imprisonment during his appeal. In 2022, he was found guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress for refusing to testify and provide documents to the January 6 House Committee.
Bannon labeled himself a "political prisoner" when beginning his sentence, expressing pride in his imprisonment and criticizing Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Justice Department.

A federal appeals court maintained his convictions in May, though Bannon continues to pursue further appeals. His defense argued the subpoena was invalid due to Trump's executive privilege, while prosecutors countered that Bannon had left the White House years earlier.
Additionally, Bannon faces charges in New York state court for allegedly defrauding donors in a border wall fundraising scheme. He has entered a not guilty plea to charges including money laundering and conspiracy, with trial scheduled for December.
