Singer Bruce Springsteen tells Donald Trump’s ICE to “get the f— out of Minneapolis”, as he honors Renee Good

Bruce Springsteen didn’t wait for a press conference or a political rally to make his anger known. Instead, he used a festival stage, a familiar song, and a moment of silence at the end of a set to deliver one of his most pointed rebukes yet of President Donald Trump and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

During a surprise appearance at New Jersey’s Light of Day festival on Saturday, January 17, the 76-year-old rocker stopped his performance to address the political climate under Trump’s administration, days after the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. Springsteen, a long-time critic of Trump, directed his fury squarely at ICE, telling the agency to “get the f--- out of Minneapolis!”




An NJ.com journalist captured the moment on video. Before launching into his criticism, Springsteen reflected on his 1978 song The Promised Land, explaining that it was written as a tribute to “American possibility.” He went on to say the song was “about both the beautiful but flawed country that we are, and to the country that we could be.”

That reflection quickly turned into a broader condemnation of what he said is unfolding across the US under Trump and ICE, urging the crowd to speak out against the administration’s policies, according to Mirror US.



“If you believe in democracy, in liberty, if you believe that truth still matters, that it's worth speaking out, that it is worth fighting for, if you believe in the power of the law and no one stands above it, if you stand against heavily armed masked federal troops invading American cities and using Gestapo tactics against our fellow citizens, if you believe you don't deserve to be murdered for exercising your American right to protest, then send a message to this president, and as the mayor of that city has said, ‘ICE should get the f--- out of Minneapolis,’” Springsteen said.

Dedicating The Promised Land to Renee Good

After his speech, Springsteen dedicated The Promised Land to Renee Nicole Good, who was shot and killed by ICE officer Jonathan Ross while sitting in her car in Minneapolis on January 7.

An incident report obtained by The Guardian detailed the injuries suffered by the 37-year-old mother of three. The report stated she sustained “two apparent gunshot wounds” to the right side of her chest, one apparent gunshot wound to her left forearm, and a possible gunshot wound on the left side of her head, along with “possible gunshot wound with protruding tissue on the left side of the patient's head.”

Renee’s killing has sparked protests in Minneapolis and across the country, with demonstrators condemning ICE’s actions and demanding accountability. Springsteen is not alone in his outrage. Celebrities including Amanda Seyfried, Simu Liu and Cynthia Nixon have also spoken out.

At the 83rd Annual Golden Globes, several stars, among them Mark Ruffalo and Ariana Grande — wore protest pins honoring Renee that read “ICE Out” and “Be Good,” underscoring how her death has become a rallying point far beyond Minneapolis.
