Ohio Senator and Vice President candidate JD Vance shared a heartwarming story about his wife, Usha Vance, and her first significant encounter with former President Donald Trump. Speaking to the "Moms for America" group, Vance praised Usha’s character and her willingness to support him throughout his political journey.
"She really is an amazing person," Vance said. He went on to explain how Usha, a successful corporate lawyer, decided to quit her job when Trump asked him to join the presidential ticket. "She told me, ‘If we’re going to do this, let’s make it a family adventure,’" Vance shared, highlighting Usha’s desire to support their family during the campaign.
Vance then shared a memorable moment from Usha’s first meeting with Trump at a fundraiser. Trump greeted her with warmth and enthusiasm, giving her a hug and saying, "Oh, you’re so beautiful! I’m so glad to see you." Vance pointed out that despite media portrayals, Trump is "a very warm and normal person."
When Trump asked Usha what she thought about Vance entering politics, she replied with a diplomatic answer: "Well, sir, you know my husband really loves public service. We love the state of Ohio, and I’m just really thrilled to be able to help him out where I can." Vance recounted that Trump, known for his bluntness, jokingly responded, "Yeah, my wife hates it too."
Reflecting on this exchange, Vance said, "That’s what I love about Trump—he finds the real truth in something, and whether you want him to say it or not, he just points his finger right at it."
Vance and Usha, who met at Yale Law School, have been married since 2014 and have three children. Usha has played a pivotal role in shaping Vance's political career and personal life.
