Montana election results 2024: Donald Trump wins

Donald Trump has won all four electoral votes in Montana.

Meanwhile, three-term incumbent Democratic US Senator Jon Tester of Montana faced his toughest re-election challenge yet on Wednesday, with a key Senate seat at stake in a state that has shifted sharply to the right since Tester’s first election.

Republicans have rallied around Tim Sheehy, a former US Navy SEAL and founder of an aerial firefighting company, who gained early support from party leaders, including former President Donald Trump. Sheehy, 38, easily secured the GOP nomination in the June primary. This race marked the first time Tester shared a ballot with Trump, who once again won Montana by a wide margin.

Further, state Representative Zooey Zephyr won re-election in a race that will allow the transgender lawmaker to return to the House floor nearly two years after being silenced and sanctioned by her Republican colleagues. Zephyr, a Democrat, defeated Republican Barbara Starmer in her Democrat-leaning district in Missoula, a college town.

Zephyr, serving in her first term, was last allowed to speak on the chamber floor in April 2023, when she refused to apologize for her remarks accusing some lawmakers of having "blood on their hands" for supporting a ban on gender-affirming medical care for youth. Her re-election marks a significant political comeback after the controversy that led to her temporary removal from the legislative floor.
