Kate, Britain's Princess of Wales, made her first public appearance this year as she waved to crowds and smiled broadly from the balcony of Buckingham Palace after watching the "Trooping the Colour" military parade on Saturday.

This marked a significant moment as the princess continues her battle with cancer.

The 42-year-old princess spent two weeks in hospital in January following major abdominal surgery. In March, she revealed through a video message that tests had detected cancer, leading to preventative chemotherapy treatments.

Despite her ongoing treatment, Kate's health has improved enough for her to make her first public appearance since December.

She arrived in a covered carriage with her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, to watch the annual military parade that celebrates the official birthday of King Charles.

The streets were packed with cheering crowds, who braved heavy rain showers to catch a glimpse of the royal family. They far outnumbered a small group of protesters calling for an end to the monarchy.

King Charles rode in a separate carriage with Queen Camilla. Prince William, Kate's husband and the heir to the throne, followed on horseback alongside other senior royal family members.

Dressed in a pale outfit adorned with a white and navy ribbon by British designer Jenny Packham and a broad-brimmed matching hat by Irish milliner Philip Treacy, Kate watched the ceremony from a window overlooking the parade ground. She pointed out various aspects of the event to her children, while King Charles saluted passing troops from a covered dais.

After the parade, the royal family returned to Buckingham Palace to watch a military flypast from the balcony. Kate smiled and waved to the crowd, her presence bringing joy to onlookers.

In a rare personal message on Friday, Kate shared that she was making good progress but was "not out of the woods" yet. She expressed her excitement about attending the parade and her hope to participate in a few public engagements over the summer.

Kensington Palace has remained tight-lipped about the specifics of Kate's cancer and treatment, only confirming that preventative chemotherapy began in February.
