C130 lands in Naypyidaw
The first C130 aircraft has landed in Naypyidaw, Myanmar, carrying a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team as part of India's immediate relief efforts following the devastating earthquake. Despite challenges posed by a partially non-operational airport, India became the first country to send rescue personnel.
Operation Brahma: India’s response
Under "Operation Brahma," India is ramping up efforts to assist Myanmar after the 7.7-magnitude earthquake. Two Indian naval ships, INS Satpura and INS Savitri, are en route to Yangon, carrying 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including tents, food, blankets, and essential medicines. A field hospital with 118 personnel is also being airlifted to provide medical support.
Death toll and damaged infrastructure
The death toll from the earthquake has risen to 1,644, with over 3,400 injured, and many more are missing. Myanmar’s military-led government has reported severe damage to infrastructure, including 2,900 buildings and several roads and bridges. The capital, Naypyidaw, is facing massive challenges in restoring power, phone services, and internet connectivity, hampering relief efforts in the region.

India continues to lead the relief efforts, with swift delivery of humanitarian aid and deployment of rescue teams. The NDRF, equipped with advanced rescue equipment, has been sent to assist Myanmar’s recovery efforts.
Dalai Lama’s message of solidarity
Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has expressed his condolences and prayers for those affected by the earthquake in Myanmar. Acknowledging the widespread destruction caused by the 7.7-magnitude quake, the Dalai Lama’s message reflects international support for Myanmar. His gesture of solidarity extends beyond words, as he directed a donation from the Gaden Phodrang Foundation to support rescue and relief operations.

The international community has expressed solidarity with Myanmar in the wake of the earthquake. King Charles III of the UK, along with Queen Camilla, offered their deepest condolences, commending the resilience of the Myanmar people. The UK’s message of support underscores the global response, as various nations, including India, step in to assist with rescue operations, medical aid, and supplies.

India’s relief operations are set to continue with further deployments of aid, medical personnel, and specialized rescue teams. A 118-member Indian Army field hospital is on its way to Mandalay, set to provide critical medical care to the injured. Rescue Operation in Mandalay
In Mandalay, one of the most remarkable rescue stories emerged when Phyu Lay Khaing, a 30-year-old woman, was rescued alive from the debris of a collapsed apartment building. Trapped for 30 hours, her rescue brought hope to the city. Many are still trapped, and rescue operations continue in Mandalay, where the earthquake caused widespread destruction, including the collapse of residential buildings and other infrastructure.
