NEW DELHI: A motorcycle carrying explosives detonated in Peshawar, Pakistan, on Sunday morning, killing two people and injuring another, according to local police.

Senior superintendent of police operations Kashif Abbasi said that the motorcycle was loaded with approximately 4 to 5 kilograms (9 to 11 pounds) of explosives when it exploded in the Board Bazaar area of Peshawar, AP reported.

Authorities have not identified any group claiming responsibility for the blast, leaving uncertainty about whether it was intentional.

Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has previously been a target for attacks, given its history as a former stronghold of the militant Pakistani Taliban group, also known as the TTP.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed condolences for the victims, "we are fully determined to root out terrorism," he said, according to a statement from his office.
