After the super successful Scam 1992, based on the Harshad Mehta case, Hansal Mehta returns as creative director for Scam 2003 – The Telgi Story. The story revolves around late Abdul Karim Telgi, born in Khanapur in Karnataka, who became the mastermind behind one of the most ingenious schemes in Indian history that spread across multiple states and shook the entire country. Based on Sanjay Singh's Telgi Scam: Reporter's ki Diary, the web series stars Gagan Dev Riar, Sana Amin Sheikh and others.
The series has opened to a thunderous applause on OTT and fans have hailed the real life thrilling saga. One user wrote, "The Telgi Story is a masterpiece! Hansal Mehta and Tushar Hiranandani sir have done a brilliant job." Another one added, "It's based on the life of Abdul Karim Telgi, the Mastermind behind the 2003 stamp paper scam."

While on Scam, though Gagan Dev Riar was the first choice to play Telgi, and even the casting director Mukesh Chhabra told him that he was the only one who would do the part, Gagan Dev was under a lot of pressure. He wanted to audition for the role, and you might not believe what happened after that. The first audition that Gagan Riar gave for ‘Telgi’ was a failure.
Talking to Indian Express, Gagan mentioned that he was told that the audition clip didn’t make the casting director happy. The actor then asked for a couple of days for another chance. He wanted to add his touch to the character and thought of improvising. He learned that Telgi was a fruit seller whose goods used to sell faster than anyone else. He thought there must be something that Telgi was doing differently. Gagan who has a flair for mimicry, added a certain slang and sang songs for his second audition and then the magic happened.
Mukesh Chhabra loved his audition and gave him a thumbs up. 30 days after that, Gagan got the news from Hansal Mehta that he is doing the lead role in ‘Scam 2003'. The actor then finally felt relaxed, though he knew this was just the beginning of a long journey.
