'Mirzapur', ‘Scam 1992’, ‘The Family Man’: 10 highest-rated Indian web series to add to your binge-watching list

While international shows like, ‘Bridgerton’, ‘The Crown’, 'How To Get Away With Murder', 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' have left us wanting more, there are several Indian shows that have emerged to be equally gripping and binge-worthy. From ‘Aspirants’ to ‘Scam 1992’ to ‘The Family Man’, here's a list of ten highest-rated Indian web series you should simply not miss:

'Mirzapur'

‘Mirzapur’ is a desi revenge-drama, full of violence and cuss words. However, its unexpected plot twists, fleshed-out characters, and performances make it stand out. Characters essayed by actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyendu Sharma have now become a household name. Both the seasons of the show were well received by the audience and the critics.

‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’

Hansal Mehta’s ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’ raised the bar for Indian web series. Tracing the rise and fall of stockbroker Harshad Mehta, it documents his journey--from his humble beginnings in a chawl to becoming the Big Bull of Mumbai’s Dalal Street and masterminding India’s first major financial fraud. The series stars Pratik Gandhi in the lead role.

4/11

‘The Family Man’

The makers of ‘The Family Man’ are coming up with the second installment of the show. So, if you are yet to watch the first season, now would be the perfect time to do so. The series has about Manoj Bajpayee playing the titular role of Srikant Tiwari, a middle-class man who works for the National Investigation Agency. The series is all about him trying to protect the nation from terrorists, while also protecting his family from the repercussions of his secret job.

5/11

‘Aspirants’

All IIT, MBBS, and IAS aspirants will relate to this one. ‘Aspirants’ is a mini-series revolving around three friends--Abhilash, Shwetketu, and Guri--and their journey as they aspire to crack civil service examinations. It stars Abhilash Thapliyal, Sunny Hinduja, and Namita Dubey in lead roles.

6/11

‘Kota Factory’

After Aspirants, ‘Kota Factory’ is yet another series that highlights the journey and struggles of IIT-JEE aspirants. The story follows the life of Vaibhav Pandey, who arrives in Kota to prepare for the JEE (IIT) exam. It is also the first-ever black-and-white Indian series ever made.

7/11

‘Panchayat’

Following the lead of Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Swades’, Jeetendra Kumar's Abhishek, tired of being unemployed, lands up in a village to take up a government job in the panchayat office. His intentions might be far less patriotic but once in the village, the character undergoes a transformation and becomes more attuned to the needs of rural India instead of trying to find a way out of the village. The comedy-drama also stars Neena Gupta and Raghuvir Yadav.

8/11

‘Sacred Games’

Starring Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles, ‘Sacred Games’ is a tale of intertwined destinies of the two protagonists who are on opposite ends of the moral spectrum. While Saif plays the role of a troubled police officer, Nawaz essays the role of the dreaded gangster Ganesh Gaitonde. It is the story of friendship and betrayal told chapter-wise over two seasons.

9/11

‘Permanent Roommates'

If you have had enough of real-life crime dramas and dark thrillers, ‘Permanent Roommates’ might be the respite you are looking for. It is a romantic-comedy that narrates the tale of Tanya (Nidhi Singh) and Mikesh (Sumeet Vyas), who have been in a long-distance relationship for three years. Once they move in together, their emotional journey begins.

If you love crime thrillers, this will be a treat for you. Starring Arshad Warsi, Barun Sobti, and Anupriya Goenka in the lead roles, ‘Asur’ is about Arshad's character, who is a forensic expert-turned-teacher. He returns to his roots at the Central Bureau of Investigation and soon finds himself caught in a cat-and-mouse chase with a brutal serial killer. It is dark and thrilling and will keep you on the edge of your seats.

11/11
