after 22 years of togetherness.

Lesia Ivashchenko says she left her job after Russia invaded her country in the last month and joined the territorial forces to defend her district on the outskirts of Kyiv.

Valerii Fylymonov hadn't seen her partner since the beginning of the invasion until Sunday.


The video was shared online by German war reporter Paul Ronzheimer, news outlet Bild.

"This couple, Lesia and Valerii, just got married next to the frontline in Kyiv. They are with the territorial defense," tweets Ronzheimer.

Photos and Videos circulating on social platforms show the Ukrainian couple who are with the territorial defence, celebrating the wedding near Kyiv.

The bride is seen wearing a white veil with her military fatigues and both have champagne flute glasses in their hands. They are surrounded by their comrades who were singing the local tunes. One of the soldiers, who looks like an orthodox Christian chaplain, is seen playing tunes on a traditional Ukrainian musical instrument.

The couple shares an 18-year-old daughter together and both left their jobs amid the Russian invasion to serve with the Ukrainian territorial defense force, a citizen volunteer force.

This warm moment gives people hope for a better tomorrow.
