Watch: MCG crowd imitates Kagiso Rabada as he goes about stretching while fielding
South African test team and their premier pacer Kagiso Rabada might be enduring an unforgettable series as far as cricketing returns are concerned. But the fast bowler's on-field antics and synchrony with crowds is already a hit.
The South African fast bowler was able to get the crowds behind him in the final session of the play as they were seen imitating his moves, while he was fielding near the boundary rope.
A video has surfaced on Twitter where Rabada could be seen getting attention from Aussie fans on a day dominated by David Warner’s double ton. Rabada was fielding near the boundary line, stretching his body. The fans soon started chanting his name and began following his actions.
As soon as the pacer realized the cheers he was receiving and that the crowd was mimicking him, he also started having fun.
The South African pacer slowly lifted one arm, take it higher as the roar grew behind him before rolling his arm to thunderous cheers. The crowd tried syncing with his movements. Rabada then repeated it with his left arm, and the fans continued to imitate and cheer along. He did all the stretching in slow motion to engage with the fans and they followed his steps throughout.
The video of the moment was tweeted by 7Cricket with caption, “How good from Kagiso Rabada.” It instantly went viral receiving close to two million views.
As far as the match is concerned, South Africa, bowled out for 189 in the first innings and trailing 1-0 in the three-match series, will need 386 runs to make Australia bat again at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Rabada’s returns as bowlers haven’t been fruitful. In the first innings, Warner began the second day on 32 after an attacking start during the final hour on Monday and continued the aggression with an early boundary off Rabada.
Then Steve Smith was not as comfortable, escaping on nine when he was dropped by wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne and then on 39 when he was given out caught behind only for it to be called a no-ball after Rabada overstepped the mark.
