Watch: Bihar student fans teacher as she sleeps in class, netizens outraged
NEW DELHI: In a video that has gone viral, a teacher from a government school in Bihar can be seen sleeping on a chair while a student fans her.
The undated clip shows the teacher sitting comfortably on her chair and dozing off, while a schoolgirl in uniform starts fanning her. Meanwhile, other students are seen sitting idle on the floor of the classroom.
The incident was reportedly recorded at a primary school in Bihar's Champaran district.
According to Times Group’s Navbharat Times, the incident happened last Saturday at Katarwa Government Primary School in the Bagahi Puraina village of West Champaran district in Bihar.
When the teacher, identified as Babita Kumari, was questioned about the clip, she claimed that she wasn’t feeling well. Explaining and defending her actions, Kumari was quoted by the daily as saying that she was not feeling well and hence was resting in the chair.
The incident has left the social media irked and furious. Many users slammed the teacher for napping during work hours and even tagged the authorities, urging strict action against her.
While it is normally children who doze off during classes, it is rare and quite shocking to see a teacher conking off and making a student fan her.
Criticizing the educator and the state of education in Bihar, people flooded the comments section of the video, demanding the teacher's suspension.
“Teacher alone is not the problem here, school authority and the government are responsible here,” commented one user. “It was believed that the situation would have improved after Nitish Kumar became the CM. But alas it is a case of old wine in a new bottle,” read another comment.
Instagram page 'Baat Bihar Ki', which posted the video and brought the issue to notice also came in for praise from several netizens.
It is unclear if any action has been initiated against Kumari yet.
