Shreyas Iyer's responsible 80 coupled with Rishabh Pant's aggressive 56 powered India to a challenging 265 in the inconsequential fixture.
Although former Indian captain Virat Kohli once again failed with the bat, his white-ball successor Rohit Sharma’s stint began on the best possible note after the Indian team beat Windies by 96 runs.
Cricket fans on social media reacted with memes to celebrate the occasion as it came right after the Indian team lost 3-0 to South Africa in the last ODI series.

Rohit is lucky to start a new era with a series win against the minnows West Indies on home soil. Our recent overseas results on the contrary have been dismal .Maybe the new captain will infuse new blood and consistency in the Indian camp with a clear dictum - perform or quit. Every player must be chosen on merit unlike the Kohli era that smacked of whimsical choices. Rohit has a long way to go. He must remain calm and composed akin to Dhoni and not exhibit unnecessary tantrums akin to Kohli. Enough of complacency and resting on past laurels, the sword of damocles must keep hanging on every player in every match they play. For the moment, best wishes to the new captain and his team for all future eengagements. The Indian team must return to the winning ways and retain their place of pride in the rankings.Read allPost comment
