India's total of 148 for six wickets proved to be too small to defend even on a slower track that helped the seamers throughout as South Africa reached home with 10 balls to spare at Cuttack, winning the game by four wickets in the end.
Quinton de Kock’s replacement Heinrich Klaasen proved to be the class act on a two-paced wicket. The wicketkeeper-batter superbly paced his innings to score 81 off 46 balls that helped South Africa chase the target of 149 with ease and go 2-0 up in the five-match series.
Asked to bat first, as in the opening game of the series, the Indian batters failed to execute their shots properly. It was followed by a poor show from Indian spinners.
A distraught skipper Rishabh Pant made no bones about the uninspiring performance of the two leading spinners Axar patel and Yuzvendra Chahal, urging them to come good after another meek surrender.
While Axar could be given only one over in which he conceded 19 runs, Chahal was equally bad as he was smashed for 49 runs in four overs. In the two games, Axar has given away 59 runs in five overs while Chahal has gone for 75 in six overs.
Former Indian pacer Zaheer khan has said that coach Rahul Dravid needs to have a strong word with the Indian team. He added that the Indian team is lacking their trademark fighting spirit and letting their guard down when conditions are not favourable for them.
Even fans mocked Indian cricketers saying they prioritize IPL over international cricket. While Indian cricketers seem to perform much better in IPL, but against strong teams in international cricket, they just surrender.
