People laugh at Jeff Bezos for wanting to explore space in viral video from 2000
Jeff Bezos, founder and former CEO of Amazon recently achieved a big personal, as well as a developmental milestone, i.e., travelling to space. Bezos, along with three others, embarked on the journey in a rocket developed by his company,
While this is being celebrated now, Bezos’ idea and desire to explore space was earlier laughed at, as seen in this two-decade-old interview of him with journalist Charlie Rose, that has become viral.
Watch the video here:
Bezos was asked what he would like to do or be if he weren’t the founder of Amazon. In response, he can be seen saying, “If I could do anything, and it turns out this is a very hard technical problem, and I don’t actually hold out great hopes but if I could do anything, I would like to help go explore space,”
He added, “I would get in a rocket ship, go up into space, and go check out a few things.”
Besides Charlie Rose, even people in the audience could be heard laughing.
Reverting to this, Mr. Rose said, “If you put your mind to it, you could probably figure out a way.” He later added, “your board of directors and stock owners may not be happy.”
To this, Bezos said, “It is really hard. Who knows; 20 years from now there are significant changes in technology; maybe such things will get easier.”
And exactly 20 years after this interview, Bezos did go into space.
