Faceoff: Rahul Gandhi’s claim about PM Modi bringing China and Pakistan together divides Twitter
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused the Modi government of bringing China and Pakistan together throuht its 'flawed' foreing policies and making a huge strategic mistake in Jammu and Kashmir.
"The single biggest strategic goal of India's foreign policy has been to keep Pakistan and China separate. But what you have done has brought the two countries together. This is the single biggest crime you have committed against the people of India," Gandhi said in Lok Sabha.
Foreign minister S Jaishankar, in a direct rebuttal to the Wayanad MP's charges, pointed towards the long history of cooperation between Pakistan and China that started under the Nehru regime.
The US State Department too refused to endorse Gandhi's remarks on the foreign policies of the BJP-led government.
Responding to a question on Gandhi suggesting that China and Pakistan are closer due to the policies of PM Modi-led central government, US State Department spokesperson Ned Price in a press briefing said, "I will leave it to the Pakistanis and the China to speak to their relationship. I certainly would not - would not endorse those remarks."
Twitter too remained a divided place with divergent opinions on Gandhi’s allegations against the Modi government.
‘Shaksgam Valley was ceded by Pakistan to China in 1963, in Nehru's lifetime.’
‘Rhetoric of the BJP government contributed to the strengthening of the Sino-Pakistan relationship’
'It was Nehru’s doing'
‘You can never take away Nehru’s legacy’
‘Strategic mistakes of the central government brought China, Pakistan together’
‘Rahul is ignorant’
‘Fully agree with Gandhi’
‘What a speech!’
Sarcasm alert
‘Must support Rahul’
