The northern districts of Tamil Nadu (TN), including Chennai, witnessed heavy rain in some areas on Monday as the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression.
Regional meteorological centre DDG S Balachandran said that "The depression will move slowly west-northwestward towards North Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts in the next 48 hours."
He also said that the depression is likely to bring heavy rain in some places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ranipet districts.
As a result, for the next few days, the weather in Chennai and in TN would be cool and Chennai, Puducherry, Karaikal and northern parts of TN would receive rains.
Not used to such cold weather, locals posted memes and jokes under hashtags #ChennaiSnow, #ChennaiRains as mercury levels dipped to 21 degrees in several parts of the city.
