Marking the 59th anniversary of the attack on Monday, Massie addressed the House of Representatives, delivering a speech in the presence of surviving crew members. During his remarks, he urged a fresh review of the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Israeli government has consistently maintained that the attack was a tragic case of mistaken identity, describing it as a “friendly fire” accident. However, some USS Liberty survivors have long challenged that account, arguing that the strike was intentional. Massie referenced those testimonies in his speech as he questioned the official narrative and called for renewed scrutiny of the event.
