Paresh Rawal, veteran actor and former BJP MP is the new chairman of National School of Drama, country’s premier theatre institute that has trained acting giants such as Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri and Irrfan Khan. The 65-year-old star, who comes with decades of experience in both cinema and theatre, accepting the charge after President Ram Nath Kovind formalised his appointment, said that he is looking forward to the 'challenging but fun' assignment. Rawal is set to head the institute for four years. He replaces playwright Ratan Thiyam whose tenure ended in August 2017. Since then, the post has been vacant.
