Trinayani actress Ashika Padukone opens up on her intimate engagement with Bangalore-based techie Chetan Shetty

Trinayani actress Ashika Padukone got engaged to Bangalore-based techie and entrepreneur Chetan Shetty on November 23. It was an intimate affair with just family members and very few friends from the industry in attendance. In an exclusive chat with ETimes TV, Ashika spoke at length about her special day, wedding plans and much more...

It's just engagement, not wedding

I've come across a lot of rumours that I got married. I would like to clarify that it's just our engagement, not a wedding. It was a very close and intimate affair at a hotel in Bangalore. Only our close family members and dear ones could attend. We had initially thought of the ceremony at home but then we had to opt for a hotel keeping in mind the current COVID-19 situation also in mind.

Wedding plans

We are planning the wedding next year when my sister from the US can also be here. We thought we'll get engaged meanwhile.

I took care of everything; my in-laws are super happy

Right from my shopping to my fiance's shopping, I've taken care of everything at my engagement ceremony. I was there at the venue until a day before my engagement. My in-laws were quite impressed by my attention to detail. They are all praises for me (laughs).

I was not ready for the wedding but lockdown changed everything

Honestly, I was neither interested nor ready for the wedding. My parents never forced me to get married. My mother gave his contact number during the lockdown and we started interacting often. We've gelled along really well.

All about Chetan

Chetan (Chetan Kumar G Shetty) is a Bangalore-based software engineer. He runs his own business, too. Right now, he is working from home away from Bangalore. His book on augmented reality got recently published, too.

He reminds me of my father

He is soft-spoken and that 'Ramudu manchi baludu' types (laughs). He is very patient and composed, just like my dad. That's what I love the most in him. Even he keeps telling me that he always wanted a wife like me (blushes).

I will continue acting

I would love to continue acting to my heart's content even after marriage. He is very understanding, supportive of my acting career and is even ready to relocate to Hyderabad if it is needed. Sweet no? He was always interested in art and drama since childhood and keeps asking me questions about my work.

His respect for my profession grew

He is in fact proud of getting married to a TV actor. He is curious about my work and has watched a few episodes of Trinayani. He asked me questions about how we shot for the underwater sequences in the show. In fact, his respect for my work and TV industry only grew by leaps and bounds. He only said, "I don't think I can work as hard as you can."
