I missed a lot of opportunities for Anjali, Kanmani Manoharan opens up about bidding adieu to Bharathi Kannamma and her new role as ‘Amudha’

Kanmani Manoharan left many fans shocked by announcing her walkout from the popular soap Bharathi Kannamma. She played the role of ‘Anjali’, stepsister to the main lead, Kannamma. The role with negative shades brought the actress wide popularity. But eventually, the character underwent a dramatic arc of reconciliation with Kannamma.

The chemistry between Anjali and Akilan, the role essayed by actor Akilan S Pushparaj, was also a much celebrated one. Recently, the actress announced her walkout from Bharathi Kannamma and left the fans in shock.

In an exclusive conversation with ETimes TV, Kanmani Manoharan opened up about her walk out and her new avatar as ‘Amutha’.

"I will definitely miss Anjali"

"I definitely miss being Anjali," the actress said, when quizzed about her journey with Anjali. "Anjali is ‘my first ever’. I am familiar with the character as if I knew someone from my family. In fact, Bharathi Kannamma felt like a family altogether, as I had travelled with them for a while, "she added.

Reason to quit Bharathi Kannamma

It has been three years since I started playing the role of ‘Anjali’. I missed a lot of opportunities for Anjali. I can’t work on many projects simultaneously. ‘Taking one at a time’ and giving my 100 percent is my way of working. I waited too long to prove myself.

Once three years passed as Anjali, I decided to see what's next. Hence, it was high time to walk out of Bharathi Kannamma.

As ‘Amudha’-her new avatar

For the unversed, Kanmani is all set to debut as the main lead in an upcoming daily soap. Only half of the title has been revealed, and it is ‘Amudhavum _____’. As the half revealed title reveals, Kanmani to play the role of ‘Amudha’, who yearns for education as she discontinued her studies because of her mother’s demise. Hence, Amudha decides to marry a teacher so she can continue her studies and achieve her dreams.

Talking about her new avatar, as Amudha, the actress said, ‘I kept coming across a lot of roles, where the female lead keeps crying and grumpy. But when I heard about ‘Amudha’, it had all the emotions I was looking for: sentiment, romance, and a funny side, but all in a balanced mix, which made me opt in.’

‘Super Queen’

Participating as one of the queens in ‘Super Queen’ reality show has brought lesser known sides of Kanmani to the fans. When quizzed about her experience as a ‘Super Queen’,

"While the talks for Amudha were proceeding, I got an invite to participate in Super Queen. Initially, I was reluctant. I thought, ‘what if I can't be myself on the show ?’. I took part in the reality show to have fun. But very soon, I realised that the competition was intense among the fellow queens. So now I have decided to give my ‘Verithanamana’ competition in upcoming challenges", the actress said.

About ‘Big screen’ endeavor

"A few projects are lined up and waiting to be officially announced soon. I am not looking to do more projects and overexposure. Rather, I prefer characters that challenge me. The character I choose should make an impact on the audience. I can wait for such an opportunity."
