​From Sai Prashanth to VJ Chitra: 10 Tamil TV celebs who died by suicide​

There are many who do well in the television industry thanks to their popular shows, but there are some who struggle to make it big or sustain their fame. In the past, popular names in showbiz have succumbed to financial and emotional pressures while some had turbulent relationships. They shook the nation with their untimely demise.

The popular Tamil daily soaps Azhagu, Vani Rani, Sevvanthi, Priyamana Thozhi, and Pandavar Illam director O. N. Rathnam's wife Priya, aged 32 was reportedly found hanging at her home on May 24, 2023. According to reports the couple had a small argument before she allegedly took her life. Rathnam had gone to pick his sons from the bus stand when she took this step.

P Padmaja, 23, was reportedly found dead in her Tiruvottiyur residence on March 1, 2020. According to police sources, she had differences with her husband and moved to Andhra Pradesh a month prior to her demise. She was reportedly going through a financial crunch.

A. C. Murali Mohan aka Bala Murali Mohan, aged 54, was reportedly found hanging at his residence on June 25, 2014. He was known for his performances in the show Thendral (as Laxman) and Vamsam (as Sendhil Raja).

Actress Shobana, 31, died by suicide on January 10, 2011, at her residence in Kotturpuram housing board colony, Chennai. She was popular for her performance in Meendum Meendum Sirippu.

Television actor Sasikumar aged 43, who was a resident of Valasaravakkam, allegedly died by suicide on October 23, 2019, near Jolarpet railway station. Sasikumar was reportedly headed to Bengaluru but got down midway and ended his life at Jolarpet railway station by hanging from a tree.

Actress VJ Sabarna Anand, 29, was reportedly found dead in her residence at Maduravoyal, Chennai on November 11, 2016. She was popular for her performances in the shows Pasamalar & Sondha Bandham and Pudhu Kavidhai.

VJ-turned-actress Chitra, aged 28, of Pandian Stores fame, died by suicide on December 9, 2022. She was found hanging in her hotel room near Nazarathpettai, Chennai.

Actor Sai Prashanth, 30, reportedly died after consuming poisoned drinks on March 13, 2016. According to reports, he was suffering from depression due to personal issues. He has acted in many shows like Thamarai, Ilavarasi, Annamalai and Selvi, to name a few.
