From boxing champion Iraa Agarwal to hockey player Puvi Arasu Muthusamy: Tamil TV celebs who also excel in athletics

The Tamil television industry has a number of personalities who are known for their athletic excellence. A few of them have also represented the state or our country to prestigious sports events. From Iraa Agarwal to Sanjay Saravanan, here are some TV celebs who also excel in sports.

Iraa Agarwal

Iraa Agarwal is an International Boxing champion besides an actress. She represented India in the boxing in the 48kgs light flyweight category in the United International Games 2019. Iraa won the Gold medal and made India proud at this event, which was held at the United Arab Emirates in November 2019. She is an ardent boxer and undergoes rigorous training session to win more medals for India in the future. At present, she is playing the lead character Thulasi in TV show Rajamagal.

Ramya Subramanian

Ramya Subramanian aka Ramya VJ is a popular actress and TV show host. Besides this, she is also a weightlifter. She won two golds in the District Deadlift and Benchpress Championship in 2017. She is also a fitness freak who is into intense workouts to keep herself fit.

Actor Ponnambalam of Bigg Boss Tamil 2 fame was a professional athlete in the early days of his career. He was the National High Jump title winner in the year 1984. Currently, he is undergoing medical treatment for his kidney ailments.

Thanikai VJ is busy in his acting career besides hosting shows on the small screen. He is a long-distance runner who participates in 10 kilometres marathon events on a regular basis. Recently, he talked about covering 10KM in 40 minutes. He took to his social media handle and wrote, “#throwback #marathon won 1st place 10kms run n 40minutes #memories #staystrong (Sic)”

Apart from this, he plays cricket also.

Puvi Arasu Muthusamy

Actor Puvi Arasu Muthusamy, currently essays the role of Iniyan in the show Oru Oorula Oru Rajakumari. He is a National-level hockey player. He also took part in various inter-college and inter-university Hockey competitions.

Sanjay Saravanan

Sanjay Saravanan is known for portraying Vasanth's character in the show Avalum Naanum. Since his childhood, he participated in the high jump, long jump, pentathlon and decathlon and many other sports events. He has won several medals at the University and State-level sports competitions. Due to a ligament tear injury, he had to quit sports at some point.

Avinash Ashok

Avinash was last seen as Thiruna in the show Azhagu. He was among the top performers in the 100 metres dash high jump at the inter-state level competitions. He got the nickname, ‘Thunder of Kodaikanal’ for his excellence in athletic competitions at the individual level. In the team sport, he was a leading Volleyball player at the division level. He comes from a family of sportspersons. Avinash’s mom Shobana was into the 100 metres long jump event in her school days and dad Ashok Kumar was a cricketer in his early days.

Actor Kathir aka Kathir VJ portrays the role of Arun Purushothaman in the serial Sembaruthi. He participated in the 4 X 100 metres relay race in his secondary school level. Besides this, he was also a Kho Kho player.

Navin Kumar

Navin Kumar is essaying the role of Shiva in the show Idhayathai Thirudadhey. He was a boxer in his school days. After a gap of a few years, he has resumed training in boxing during the lockdown break. Going by the intense training and functional workout, it seems that Navin winning in championships is just a matter of time.
