'Pandian Stores' fame VJ Chithu also known as Chitra allegedly died by suicide early this morning. Tributes have been pouring in for the actress from people in the film and television fraternity, and also from her beloved fans. Having charmed her way through the hearts of her fans as 'Mullai' in the serial, Chithu was also touted to make her Kollywood debut soon.

Filmmaker Lokesh Kumar of 'My Son Is Gay' fame, who is working presently on 'N4', says that he had cast Chithu in one of his short films. He says, “Honestly, this news has left me shocked and speechless. I recollect my shooting days with Chithu; it was for a short film titled 'Acid' based on acid attack and a first project for both of us. She was a multi-talented performer and was easy to work with and well-known for her command in Tamil and anchoring skills. She came a long way from being a small time anchor to becoming the most desired Tamil Television household name. She was a positive and happy soul, who just started doing films in spite of her tight television schedule. I am sure she would have made it big in the film industry just like her television journey, but gone too soon. May God give strength to her family.”
Chitra had started her career as a video jockey and had hosted a couple of shows like 'Saa Boo Thri', 'Ossthi Comedy Kusthi' and Anjarai Petty'. She also took up acting, and made her acting debut in 'Chinna Papa Periya Papa'. She was seen in 'Velunachi' and was currently doing 'Pandian Stores'. She was also hosting the show, 'Vasool Vettai', last year.
