Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the citizens of India to switch off the lights at home and lit up a diya or candle or flash their phone’s torchlight on April 5, 2020, at 9 pm for 9 minutes. He requested all the citizens to join the initiative to express solidarity and fight against the COVID-19 virus. He referred the light as “Light of a unity”.
