From COVID-19 shutdown to Rajith's expulsion: A quick recap of Bigg Boss Malayalam 2

Often considered the most challenging season of Bigg Boss Malayalam, Season 2 had a rollercoaster journey. Although it launched with much anticipation following the success of Season 1, the show faced multiple hurdles right from the beginning. Here's a quick look at the highs, lows, and controversies that defined Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 2.

2/6

A grand beginning

Bigg Boss Malayalam 2 premiered on January 5 with the tagline "Ini Valiya Kalikalumalla, Kalikal Vere Level," meaning "Not just big plays anymore, the game is on another level." The show introduced a total of 22 contestants, with 17 participants entering on launch day and five more joining later as wildcard entrants. Popular faces like Arya, Manju Pathrose, Amritha Suresh, and Pashanam Shaji were among the key players of the season.

3/6

The first duo contestant

For the first time in the history of Bigg Boss Malayalam, a duo entered as a single contestant. Sisters and singers Amritha and Abhirami Suresh joined the house as wildcard entrants on the 49th day, competing together as one unit, which added a unique twist to the format.

4/6

The eye infection setback

Just as the game was gaining momentum, a sudden eye infection outbreak forced five contestants to leave the house temporarily. Although they returned after a few weeks, the disruption impacted the natural flow and intensity of the competition.

5/6

Rajith Kumar's expulsion

One of the most controversial incidents in the history of the show occurred during a task when contestant Rajith Kumar applied chili on fellow housemate Reshma Nair, causing her severe discomfort. The incident sparked outrage, and Rajith was expelled from the show, a move that drew both criticism and support from different corners of the audience.

6/6

Season called off due to COVID-19

As the COVID-19 pandemic worsened across the country, the show was called off on Day 74 as a safety precaution. Host Mohanlal entered the house and personally informed the contestants about the decision, marking an emotional and abrupt end to a season that never reached its grand finale.
