Sayli aka desh ki beti is a daughter of an ambulance driver and her father received appreciation for letting Sayli pursue singing even after all the hardships the family was going through

Sayli Kamble got fame after she participated in Indian Idol 12 and became one of the finalists. Post that, the Mumbai girl went to do another music reality show, this time not as a participant but as a captain who guided kids in their singing journey. In a chat, she spoke to us about her singing, life post marriage and future plans. Excerpts....

'My husband and I are workaholics'

Sayli got married to her long-time boyfriend Dhaval Patil in April this year but has been working constantly without taking a break. She says, "I haven't taken a long break. I love working, in fact my husband Dhaval and I are both workaholics. He is the one who insists that I should focus on my singing. Even while I am lazing around or sleeping, he wakes me up and encourages me to get back to work. He himself is very focused on his own work, so we both are like that. But that doesn't mean that we don't spend time together."

'Whenever we find time, Dhaval and I make it a point to spend it with each other'

Talking further about life after marriage, she says, "Whenever we get free from our work, we go out or spend time at home. Some time back, we went to Goa together. So whenever we find time in between, we make it a point to spend it with each other."

Sayli's success story

Sayli's father Kishore Kamble is an ambulance driver and they live in a chawls in Mumbai. She has always credited her family for her success and has said that she is what she is today because of their encouragement and sacrifice. Indian Idol 12 helped her take the first step in the world of showbiz. "Participating in Indian Idol 12 has been a life-changing experience," she says.

Her learnings from her journey so far

On the work front, she has learnt a lot, she says. Two of the main things are punctuality and how not to let fame or success go to her head. She says, "It can happen to a person... that once he/she makes it in life, they feel that they have achieved a lot. But that's not the right attitude. We have to keep working hard and be focused in our lives because when we were nobody, we used to try very hard to get somewhere in life. Now that we are there, we can't afford to get lazy, instead we have to work harder. These are some of my learnings in life."

Wants to be a playback singer

Apart from shows, is she hoping to get a chance as a playback singer? She says, "I am working on my singing skills; l do my riyaaz everyday. I am not actively going and meeting music directors for work, but I hope that my work and voice reaches people and they would want to give me some work."

Indian Idol 12 contestants are like family

Sayli says she is in touch with her Indian Idol 12 friends. She is also happy to see them grow in their careers. "Recently, Nihal Tauro sang for Himesh Reshamiya and he sounds so good. I am very happy to see how they are all progressing in life," she signs off.
