Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’s Jheel Mehta aka Sonu reveals why she quit the show; says 'Unlike rumours I wasn't removed because of my height'

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’s former Sonu, played by Jheel Mehta took to her vlog to share many interesting details regarding why she left the show, if she would plan to return and more. From revealing how she pulled off a stunt while shooting to with whom she bonded the most, here take a look at Jheel’s experience while working in Taarak Mehta.

I left Taarak Mehta because I was in 10th standard and as you know, we have these board exams. I needed to prepare for them and which is why I decided to leave the show.

No. I have been asked this question the most. But let me just tell everybody, no, I will not. Being on TV was something I wanted to do as a child. And I fulfilled that dream of mine after which I was focusing on my studies. And now I'm into business and that is what I am planning.

Actually, there are lots of similarities. When I was playing the character of Sonu, I never felt like I had to act like a completely different person because at the core, I'm very similar to that character.

Oh my God, the number of people who think that I was fired because of my height from the show is just outrageous. No no no. One, I was not fired from the show and two, I quit the show because I had to focus on my studies I just wanted to focus on my studies. Why is it so difficult for people to understand that? I don't get it.

Bad? No. Bittersweet? Yes. Obviously I had spent so much time with everybody and I kind of grew up on the show that you all saw. So it was a little sad and difficult when I did leave the show because we used to meet so often for shooting and then suddenly it stopped. So it was bittersweet because it was my decision and my choice that I made because I wanted to study.

I was a kid when I started acting so I was not inspired by anything particular apart from like a feeling and an intuition that I just really want to be on TV. I want to be on TV. I want to make my parents proud. And I have always been a child who was, you know, active in dance. And I wanted to show that to the world. It has been a really long time since we've all hung out. Maybe, after this video, we'll make a plan to meet up.

So there was this scene, where the gate was closed and I had to like climb up and then jump down to go to school. And of course it was like a stunt because there were mattresses and we had to jump on to them and I am adventurous, but it was quite high. So I was very proud of myself in that moment. So that is something I'll always remember. Yeah, we celebrated my birthday on the set once. And it was really sweet. Everyone was around us. That was also something I'll always remember. I think I bonded the most with Munmun didi, Neha didi, and of course, Tapu Sena.
