Sudha Chandran breaks her silence on viral video from Mata Ki Chowki; reacts to trolls, says, “I’m not questioning anyone’s religion but…”

Sudha Chandran, who became a household name for her popular roles on the small screen, recently made headlines with a viral video. Her video from Mata Ki Chowki, where she looked ‘spiritually possessed,’ surfaced on social media. Sudha recently appeared on a podcast with Paras Chhabra and opened up about the same. She narrated the incident and even recalled her childhood.

On the viral video

Sudha Chandran reacted to her viral video and shared her experience. She mentioned how she didn’t realise what was happening to her but is happy to experience the goddess’ presence. She said, “Many people say that Mata Ji comes to you. I don’t know how or why it happens, but Mata Ji does come and bless me.”

Sudha recalls her spiritual journey

She shared, “I had a very strong sense of doubt. I didn’t know that divine presence could come to me, but whenever it did, it always blessed me. I didn’t really understand what was happening or what it meant. My journey began with Mayuri, a Telugu film. And if we talk about biopics today, Mayuri was actually the first biopic. In all other biopics, someone else plays the character. This was the first film where the story was mine, and I myself played the heroine.”

Sudha recalls her childhood

Sudha further said, “My father came to Mumbai from Kerala at a very young age because of family responsibilities. He worked as a typist and would often watch great dancers. He used to say that once he got married and had a daughter, he would make her a dancer and make her name famous. At the place where he worked, there was a famous dancer named Doreswamy, whose name he often spoke about.”

The tragic accident

She said, “I once scolded my grandmother and told her, ‘You keep chanting Murugan, Murugan all the time. I only want to meet God.’ So we went to visit a place; it was about ten kilometers away, near a forest area. On the way, our bus met with an accident. Five days later, it turned out I had a very small fracture. There was slight pain in my right ankle. The doctors stitched it and put a plaster of Paris cast on it—I don’t know what went wrong. For fifteen days, they tried everything, but by then it had turned into gangrene. Eventually, my leg had to be amputated.”

On trolls

Sudha reacted to the trolls and said, “When people asked me if I felt something from within at that moment, I honestly couldn’t understand it myself. How can a person drink four and a half litres of water at one time? It’s so difficult. I can’t even drink that much in an entire day. I was saying the same thing—at night, even a two-litre bottle doesn’t get finished. I don’t know what it was. When did I ever say that Mata Rani’s full energy came into me? At most, if anything happened, it was just a tiny fraction, an iota. And even then, I clearly say it was not her energy; it was her presence. It was not energy. It was a presence that came, and she chose my body. Those who are trolling, that’s a different matter. But I am not questioning anyone’s faith or religion. I am not answerable to them, nor are they answerable to me. I am not standing here for validation.”

On her father’s demise

Talking about a magical incident, she continued and said, “As soon as the dance began, a Brahmin entered the auditorium. There was only one seat vacant, and he came and sat next to my father. After the show, he said, ‘After Murugan, make sure you give this camphor to your daughter.’ He placed camphor in my hand. When I opened my purse, I saw that it was Murugan’s camphor.”
She then said, “When my father was in the ICU for three days, he kept telling me, ‘Don’t worry, dear. When I go, Murugan himself will come to take me.’ I was sitting in the ICU when suddenly I saw a peacock outside. The moment I saw the peacock, within ten minutes, my father passed away.”
