​Shilpa Shinde to Smriti Irani, TV stars who joined politics

Popular Haryanvi dancer Sapna Chaudhary's entry into the field of politics and her announcement of joining Congress party surprised many. The actress further shocked fans by denying her involvement in the party and politics. A few photos proving her association with the party have come up but the actress denies them to be new. Smriti Irani

TV's most beloved Bahu Tulsi Virani aka Smriti Irani went onto win hearts with the portrayal of a quintessential bahu Tulsi in the show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Smriti, then went onto join BJP in 2003 and now is one of the most successful actors turned politicians in India. She is the incumbent Minister of Textiles in the Government of India.

Navjyot Singh Sidhu

One of the team members of The Kapil Sharma Show, Navjot Singh Sidhu was earlier a part of Bharatiya Janata Party and won a ticket from the Amritsar seat in the Indian general elections, 2004. In 2017, he joined Congress after leaving BJP on bitter terms. He was recently in news for his pro Pakistan remarks after the Pulwama attack. Photo- Instagram.

Nitish Bharadwaj

TV's Ram aka Nitish Bharadwaj joined politics, at the age of 23. Nitish became one of the most successful actors on television and was loved as Lord Krishna in the hugely popular series 'Mahabharat.' Nitish contested the parliamentary elections from Jamshedpur and Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh as a BJP candidate. He was elected as a Member of Parliament from Jamshedpur in 1996 and lost in 1999 Lok Sabha elections from Rajgarh. In 2006, Nitish quit the party. Photo- Inatagram.

Shekhar Suman

Shekhar Suman joined the Congress in 2009 and faced quite a few ups and downs in his political career. In 2012, Shekhar quit Congress and made a comeback on television with the new season of his popular satirical show ‘Movers and Shakers'. Photo- Instagram.

Rakhi Sawant

The item girl turned actress turned politician in 2014 . In March 2014, Rakhi announced her plans to contest for Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North-West as an Independent Candidate and she founded the party called ‘Rashtriya Aam Party’ (RAP). Rakhi promoted her party with a symbol of ‘green chilli,’ which she felt resembled her personality. She received only 2006 votes from Mumbai North-West Constituency and lost the elections. Shilpa Shinde

TV actress Shilpa Shinde, popular for her portrayal of Angoori in Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hain joined Congress party on February 5, 2019, in Mumbai. Arshi Khan

Bigg Boss 11 fame Arshi Khan is the latest celebrity to join politics. She joined Congress party last month in February. The actress was welcomed into the party and was apparently offered a big post in the party. She has joined Congress as the Vice President of Maharashtra.
