Sanaya Irani, who shot to notoriety after playing the lead in Miley Jab Hum Tum, is one of the entertainment industry's most popular actresses. In a recent interview, she admitted that she got paid less than her co-star Mohit Sehgal on the show. Sanaya further stated that Mohit encouraged her to request equal compensation from the show's creators.
Sanaya Irani recently revealed how Mohit Sehgal encouraged her to demand equal pay while working on Miley Jab Hum Tum. When Sanaya first started working on the show, she got paid more than her co-star Mohit.
Sanaya Irani spoke about the incident, saying, "We were seeing each other during Miley Jab Hum Tum. The show ran for over three years, so we had three contract renewals. When I joined Miley Jab Hum Tum, I had already done some work, so my daily rate was slightly higher. But Mohit was a complete beginner, therefore he received the basic per day that newcomers receive."
She added, "In the second year, increment occurs, so I am still above whoever is below me. But Mohit approached me because he asked. Because it didn't matter who arrived from where the show was run by all four, and Mohit ascended the ladder a little higher."
Sanaya revealed that in the third year, Mohit earned more every day than she did. When he found out, he encouraged her to speak with the show's producers about it. Sanaya added that Mohit believed that all four of them should receive the same amount of money. He felt that if they weren't all getting the same thing, the show wouldn't work.
Sanaya mentioned how lovely the producers were to her when she went to discuss equal pay. Sanaya went on to say, "I couldn't mince words. I answered, "I just feel wronged." You'll notice that I'm seeing Mohit, and I know who gets how much per day. I believe we should all get the same.' And they matched. When Mohit came in and understood what was going on, he felt there should be equality, so he said, "Go talk to them."
Sanaya also noted that she is struggling with pay parity and that while shows are mostly about women, the male star is compensated more. She stated, "I never realised that even if a male is on set for 12 hours, there will be sequences where he is not present. But the woman is on set for 12 hours, saying the lines, crying, shoving glycerin in her eyes, changing, putting on that wig, and all that, and we are still paid less. I asked for equal pay and was denied."
