Rrahul Sudhir on Bombay Stories’ Marché du Film Showcase at Cannes: We see this not as a destination, but as the beginning of a larger journey

Rrahul Sudhir, who has been part of projects such as Twisted and was most recently seen in the TV show Dabangii – Mulgii Aayi Re Aayi, will next be seen in Bombay Stories. The film, which also stars Mouni Roy and Anupriya Goenka, was showcased at the Marché du Film, the film market held alongside the Cannes Film Festival. In the film, Rrahul plays Rahul, a wealthy man whose curiosity and constant urge to experiment with life uncover unexpected facets of his personality.

Speaking about landing the role and what drew him to the character, Rrahul says, “I got a call from Rahat Kazmi sir, the director of the film. He told me that every time he thought of this character, my name was the one that came to his mind. That is how I got the part. I play Rahul, a wealthy man who is constantly driven by curiosity and a desire to experiment with life. On the surface, he appears to be a normal, successful individual, but beneath that lies a complex human being with countless shades and emotions.”



When it came to preparing for the role, Rrahul admits that his process was not as elaborate as he had initially hoped. However, a conversation with the director changed his perspective. He shares, “My director told me, ‘Rrahul, sometimes the best preparation is no preparation, so just show up.’ With him, it is such an instinctively safe space that you can throw even the most unusual idea at him and he will listen. If it makes sense, he will find a way to improve it further. There is complete freedom to share your thoughts with him, and I love that.”


Rrahul also spoke about working with his co-stars, particularly Mouni Roy. He says, “Unfortunately, I didn’t get to share screen space with Anupriya. I do have a very interesting and physically demanding sequence with Mouni Roy, which I can’t reveal much about at the moment, but it was one of the highlights of the project for me. What I appreciated most was how comfortable she made me feel as a fellow actor. That level of trust and professionalism allowed me to stay fully immersed in the character and focus entirely on the performance.”

The actor is equally excited about the film’s international journey and its showcase at the Marché du Film during the Cannes Film Festival. “Being a part of the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival is a dream for countless artistes around the world. Reaching Cannes organically through your work is an especially satisfying feeling because it validates the effort, dedication and belief that go into making a film,” he says, adding, “Cannes is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, and having our film showcased there is both an honour and a proud moment for all of us. The fact that our journey has begun on such a significant platform is incredibly encouraging. At the same time, we see this not as a destination, but as the beginning of a much larger journey for the film. We are excited to see where it goes from here and to share it with audiences across the world.”
